The new show from Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner has a lot to live up to, but there will at least be two familiar faces in the cast.
Christina Hendricks and John Slattery, a.k.a. former sparring partners Joan Harris and Roger Stirling, will feature in one episode of the anthology series The Romanoffs when it launches on Amazon next year, according to Variety.
The new series is every bit as ambitious as you’d expect from the man behind one of the greatest TV series of the last decade. It’ll be made up of eight hour-long episodes, each of which tell a standalone story about people around the world who believe they are related to the Romanovs, Russia’s royal dynasty from 1613 until the Bolshevik revolution in 1917 put an end to the monarchy altogether.
Unlike Mad Men, which famously had a relatively unknown cast when it began in 2007, The Romanoffs already boasts an impressive line-up of award-winning actors. Joining Christina and John will be Oscar nominee Isabelle Huppert (Elle), Boardwalk Emipre‘s Jack Huston, Togetherness‘ Amanda Peet and Golden Globe nominee Marthe Keller.
So far there are no details as to which roles they’ll play, though there’s little doubt whomever Christina and John play, they’ll have chemistry.
Nor will this be the first time they’ve worked together since cameras stopped rolling on Mad Men. In 2014 Christina starred alongside the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in God’s Pocket, a film written and directed by John.
There’s no confirmed date for the show, but it’s expected to debut on Amazon in the spring of 2018.
