It looks like Kenneth Branagh‘s going to have to dust off that moustache again, as this year’s Murder on the Orient Express gets a sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Agatha Christie adaptation with an all-star cast will be followed by an updated version of Death on the Nile, the 1937 novel turned into a classic film starring Peter Ustinov, Angela Lansbury and Dame Maggie Smith in 1978.
Michael Green will write the script, having written Orient Express, as well as the screenplays for Logan and Bladerunner 2049 in 2017 alone.
And though his involvement hasn’t yet been confirmed, it’s expected Sir Ken will return both as director and in the starring role of the famous detective with the extraordinarily hirsute upper lip, Hercule Poirot.
Death on the Nile sees him on vacation in Egypt, where he’s forced to investigate a murder resulting from a love triangle. Needless to say, there are a number of possible culprits, and plenty of bow ties and feather boas.
Which big name stars will play the socialite Jackie de Bellefort, played in 1978 by Mia Farrow, or Salome Otterbourne, played by Angela Lansbury, or elderly kleptomaniac Mrs. Van Schuyler, played by Bette Davis, is anyone’s guess.
But we’re looking forward to another outing for Sir Ken’s Poirot — not to mention that tash — and in a sunnier setting to boot.
Are you excited to see more Poirot?
