Just three months after his casting was announced, we’ve got our first look at Matthew Goode as geneticist Matthew Clairmont in A Discovery of Witches.
There’s more to his character than meets the eye, as anyone who’s read Deborah Harkness‘s 2011 fantasy novel of the same name will know.
He’s also a vampire, as history professor and closet witch Diana Bishop (Hacksaw Ridge‘s Teresa Palmer) discovers in this clip released yesterday (November 22):
SNEAK PEEK TIME! It all starts with this clip from #ADiscoveryOfWitches. Coming soon to @SkyOne! @DebHarkness @teresapalmer @ADiscoveryOfWTV pic.twitter.com/AAK67wWQ92

And did you spot Sherlock‘s Louise Brealey? She plays Diana’s friend and fellow witch Gillian Chamberlain, as we reported two months ago.
The impressive cast is rounded out by Alex Kingston (Doctor Who), Lindsay Duncan (Doctor Who, Sherlock), Valarie Pettiford (The Blacklist), Tanya Moodie (Sherlock), Greg McHugh (Fresh Meat), Owen Teale (Game of Thrones), Aiysha Hart (Atlantis), Elarica Johnson (Strike: The Cuckoo’s Calling) and Trevor Eve (Waking the Dead), though they are not visible in this teaser.
The show also seems to be making the most of its Oxford location, as demonstrated by some very atmospheric photos:

U.K. TV network Sky also released an official synopsis for the show:
“What happens when a witch and a vampire fall in love? History professor and closet witch Diana Bishop and geneticist and secret vampire Matthew Clairmont find out when they are thrown together in pursuit of the truth behind a strange manuscript found in the University of Oxford’s Bodleian Library.”

A Discovery of Witches is due to air in 2018, though a U.S. broadcaster is yet to be announced.

Is this how you imagined Matthew and Diana?
