We’ve got our first glimpse at a future dystopian version of Mark Rylance in the trailer for Ready Player One released yesterday (December 10).
Rylance plays James Halliday, the creator of OASIS, a virtual reality world that people in the year 2045 engage in various activities to escape their real lives.
The film is an adaptation of Ernest Cline‘s 2011 book of the same name, which tells the story of Wade Watts (X-Men: Apocalypse star Tye Sheridan), who attempts to play “Anorak’s Game” and win full ownership of OASIS and Halliday’s $240 billion fortune.
From the looks of the trailer, not least Mark’s hairdo and a particularly high-octane version of “Jump” by Van Halen, the film is going to have a distinctly 1980s vibe:
This marks the third time he’s worked with director Steven Spielberg, after The BFG and Bridge of Spies, for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
The Limehouse Golem‘s Olivia Cooke also briefly puts in an appearance as fellow competitor Art3mis, while Rogue One‘s Ben Mendelsohn is villain Nolan Sorrento. Other cast members Simon Pegg and T.J. Miller are not shown.
Ready Player One opens in theaters on March 30, 2018.
Are you looking forward to this one?
