Comedy nerds rejoice! Not only is Flight of the Conchords back, but cult vampire flick What We Do in the Shadows is being turned into TV.
The two shows are linked, of course. Conchords‘ Jemaine Clement wrote and starred in the 2014 mockumentary alongside Jonathan Brugh and long-time collaborator Taika Waititi. They portray a group of ancient, blood-sucking vampires going about their everyday life, like trying to get into a local nightclub, chatting up girls, and arguing about whose turn it is to do the dishes.
Here’s the trailer as a reminder. See if you can spot Conchords‘ other standout performer, Rhys Darby, as the leader of a pack of werewolves:
Deadline reports Jemaine will turn the film into a half-hour pilot for FX, which will be directed by Taika after his highly acclaimed stint on Thor: Ragnarok.
And that’s not all. An impressive cast of British comedy talent has been lined up to play new characters, as the series “reboots” the original film’s premise.
Kayvan Novak (Four Lions, Rev) will play Nandor, the alpha-male vampire of the house; Matt Berry (The I.T. Crowd) will play the comically stupid Lazslo; while Natasia Demetriou (Sick Note) will play “badass” vampire Nadja. The Magicians‘ Harvey Guillen, meanwhile, is expected to play Nandor’s assistant.
