First Look: ‘The Crown’s’ Claire Foy Loses It in Steven Soderbergh’s iPhone-Shot ‘Unsane’

Claire Foy has swapped the crown for a hospital gown in Steven Soderbergh‘s upcoming thriller Unsane.

Her character is a world away from Queen Elizabeth II, her role in The Crown that won her a Golden Globe last year. Instead she plays a woman involuntarily committed to a mental institution, who is forced to rely on her own wits when no one else believes her or is willing to help.

The film is also a lot more lo-fi than Netflix’s ambitious regal drama. It was filmed in secret on iPhone cameras, giving the whole thing a mysterious, claustrophobic feel.

A creepy new trailer released yesterday (January 29) gave us our first glimpse at the film, and Claire’s supporting cast of Vinyl‘s Juno TempleSNL alum Jay PharoahStranger ThingsAimee Mullins, and Amy Irving.

It’s also the first time we’ve heard Claire attempt an American accent. Does she pull it off? Take a look and see:

Unsane is the first in a number of film roles Claire has lined up since leaving Buckingham Palace, with others including the wife of Ryan Gosling‘s Neil Armstrong in First Man by director Damien Chazelle, and Lisbeth Salander in an upcoming reboot of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo franchise.

Clearly, Claire is keen not only to move away from the TV show that made her name, but also the small screen altogether.

Unsane opens in theaters on March 23.

Are you excited to see Claire in a new light?
