It’s due out in less than four months, and the beleaguered Han Solo movie has finally got a trailer.
A brief spot aired during the Super Bowl last night (February 4), with the teaser trailer premiering during Good Morning America today (February 5).
It gives us our first look at Alden Ehrenreich as Star Wars‘ most popular character: the swashbuckling space pilot and smuggler Han Solo, made famous by Harrison Ford in the original movies. Alden portrays Han a few years before the events of the 1977 film Star Wars (retitled A New Hope in the subsequent prequel/sequel kerfuffle), as he trains to become the “best” pilot “in the galaxy.”
The trailer itself comes packed with just about everything you’d expect from a film about a young Han Solo: there are flashes of the Millennium Falcon, a vast Imperial base, and brief glimpses of iconic characters like Lando Calrissian (played by Atlanta‘s Donald Glover) and a Wookiee who may or may not be Chewie (Joonas Suotamo).
We also get to see the movie’s other actors, like Woody Harrelson as Han’s mentor Tobias Beckett, Westworld‘s Thandie Newton as an unknown character (though her brief appearance confirms she’ll be a badass), and Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke as Kira.
There’s no sign of Paul Bettany, who joined the project last September for an undisclosed role, or BBC America’s own Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Reports last year suggested she’d play a “key role” requiring a “CGI-driven performance,” so our money is on the creature at 0:36, or the cute droid who salutes Lando at 0:43.

It’s not been the easiest ride to theaters for the second Star Wars spin-off movie (2016’s Rogue One was the first). After reports of on-set creative differences, original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were fired midway through shooting and replaced by safe choice Ron Howard, which caused some to express concerns about how this might affect the finished film.
We’ll be able to judge for ourselves when Solo opens on Memorial Day (May 28, 2018).
