First Look: The Dynamos Reunite as ‘Mamma Mia 2’ Starts Filming

Here we go again! After many delays, it looks like the long-touted sequel to 2008’s smash hit Mamma Mia! has finally started production, thanks to a photo posted by Lily James over the weekend.

As we told you last month, Lily plays a young version of Donna, the single mom portrayed by Meryl Streep in both the original and its follow-up, and on Saturday (August 12) she posted a picture of three pairs of feet wearing some gold, very high stacked-heel boots indeed:

It’s happening.. #TheDynamos #MammaMia2

The hashtag #TheDynamos refers to Donna’s youthful band Donna and the Dynamos, made up of her two besties Rosie and Tanya, whose rendition of ABBA hit “Super Trouper” was one of the original film’s highlights.

Rosie and Tanya were of course played by Julie Walters and Christine Baranski respectively, and Christine at least has been confirmed to be reprising her role for the sequel (and needless to say we’ve got all our fingers and toes crossed that the irrepressible Julia will be joining her).

Playing Rosie as a young woman will be Alexa Davies, a British actress recently seen in Harlots and The Five, so it’s presumably her feet that make up one of the pairs in the photo above.

As for the other one, we’ll have to wait and see, there’s been no announcements as to who’ll play young Tanya. Earlier this month, however, Deadline reported that a young version of Sam, the suitor played by Pierce Brosnan, will be played by War Horse star Jeremy Irvine.

He’ll join Lily, Alexa and original cast members Meryl, Christine, Pierce, Dominic Cooper, Amanda Seyfried, and Colin Firth for a return to the ABBA-themed Greek island in July 2018.
