David Tennant was known for his quirky sense of humor during his stint as the Tenth Doctor, but his next role is set to take things into darker territory.
Variety reports he’s signed up to star in Camping, the new comedy by Lena Dunham and her Girls co-show runner Jenni Konner.
As we reported last month, the eight-episode comedy series is based on a recent British sitcom by Nighty Night star Julia Davis. It tells the story of a camping trip organized by controlling mother Kathryn to celebrate her husband’s milestone birthday.
The lead role, played originally by Getting On star Vicki Pepperdine, will be played by Jennifer Garner, with David playing her long-suffering husband Walt, played in the original by Steve Pemberton (better known as David’s erstwhile chum Strackman Lux in Doctor Who).
Anyone who saw the original series will know “Walt” (or Robin, as he was known in that version) had a very eye-opening birthday trip indeed, so it’s going to be a lot of fun seeing what David does with the role.
There’s no air date for Camping yet, but in the meantime we’ll be able to see David on the big screen in Bad Samaritan and Mary Queen of Scots, both of which open in theaters later this year, and on the small screen playing a flame-haired demon in Good Omens in 2019. You can currently watch him in the second season of Jessica Jones, reprising his role as Zebediah Kilgrave.
Are you excited to see David strut his stuff in a comedy?
