Peter Capaldi is back in a burgundy velvet coat and vest, but this time it’s not as the Doctor. He’s actually in costume as Mr. Micawber, the ever-optimistic clerk in David Copperfield.

A new take on the Charles Dickens classic is currently being made by Veep creator Armando Iannucci, starring other Anglo faves Hugh Laurie, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw, and Dev Patel in the titular role.

Filming began in June in Norfolk, England, and has since moved to Hull in the north-east of the country. From the looks of things, part of the city has been transformed into a Victorian town:

It wasn’t long before fans spotted Peter in Victorian costume as Mr. Micawber, with some even managing to get a photo with the great man:

Also on set was The Night Manager‘s Hugh Laurie, dressed as his character Mr. Dick, previously played by Ian McNiece in the 1999 PBS Masterpiece adaptation of the novel.

It’s something of a reunion for the two actors, who starred together in Fortysomething, the 2003 sitcom notable for the fact Hugh played the middle-aged father of one Benedict Cumberbatch (who was 27 at the time). Peter played his colleague and nemesis Dr. Ronnie Pilfrey, before both actors exchanged one doctor role for another: Peter as the twelfth incarnation of THE Doctor, and Hugh as Dr. Gregory House.

It certainly looks like the pair — or Peter, at least — are enjoying working together again:

The Personal History of David Copperfield is expected to open in theaters some time next year.

Are you looking forward to seeing these two on screen together?
