Details about Danny Boyle‘s upcoming Beatles project have been in short supply, but they are finally starting to trickle through.

So far we know the Trainspotting filmmaker will direct it, Richard Curtis has written the script, and Lily James and SNL‘s Kate McKinnon are among its stars — but not much else, except that it’s got something to do with Liverpool’s finest.

An interview with Ed Sheeran yesterday (August 29) has finally provided some answers. Associated Press reports the “Shape of You” singer let slip he’s already filmed his scenes for the movie, which has been shooting in England since April.

“They shot it around loads of my gigs,” he explained. “So it was a very intense two months. Because I would have four days of gigging and then three days of shooting a film.”

Ed was playing himself, meaning he didn’t have to act quite so much, compared to his recent cameo Game of Thrones cameo. “I don’t think I was that bad,” he said. “There wasn’t much to (mess) up.”

As for the plot, newcomer Himesh Patel will star as a singer-songwriter who wakes up one day to discover that he is the only person on the planet who remembers the Beatles. The real Ed Sheeran then discovers Patel’s character, who knows all these great tunes, and takes him on tour.

So basically it sounds like it’ll be a bit like that final scene in Back to the Future, when Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) plays “Johnny B. Goode” in 1955, three years before Chuck Berry recorded it.

Danny Boyle now has plenty of time to focus on the movie, thanks to his recent departure from the next James Bond movie. And while his latest flick may not yet have a title, but it’s due to open in theaters in September 2019.

Do you like the sound of this movie?
