Casting News: Greg Kinnear and Lesley Manville Join Keira Knightley for ‘Misbehaviour’

Greg Kinnear is returning to the world of beauty pageants, 12 years after he starred in Little Miss Sunshine.

Deadline reports the House of Cards star will play comedian Bob Hope in new comedy drama Misbehaviour, the upcoming movie about the 1970 Miss World contest starring Keira Knightley.

Hope was the host of the competition, which was famously disrupted by members of the newly formed Women’s Liberation Movement. Phantom Thread‘s Lesley Manville will play his wife and singer Dolores.

And that’s not all: Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard), Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) and Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey) are all joining the cast, which already includes Keira, Jessie Buckley and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Billed as a “dramedy,” the film will show how protestors invaded the stage and claimed beauty contests demeaned women in front of 100 million TV viewers, before Miss Grenada – the first black woman to be crowned Miss World – became the surprise winner over the favorite, Miss Sweden.

“In a matter of hours,” says the film’s synopsis,” a global audience had witnessed the patriarchy driven from the stage and the Western ideal of beauty turned on its head.”

Filming starts this week in London and is set to wrap in early 2019. And with a cast like this, it’s shaping up to be one to watch in more ways than one.
