‘Are You Ready?!’ The Foo Fighters Do ‘Carpool Karaoke’

It’s finally happened! For the first time in “Carpool Karaoke” history, James Corden has given in and admitted he can’t compete with one of his guests.

He’s battled with Adam Lambert to be the new Queen frontman, gone toe-to-toe on the basketball court with Ice Cube, and challenged Riz Ahmed to a rap-off. But faced with the mighty Foo Fighters last night (September 20) he was forced to give up on his dreams of being in a rock band.

The Seattle rockers were the latest stars to jump in James’s car on The Late Late Show with James Corden, though a minivan was needed to fit them all in.

They proceeded to belt out some of their biggest hits, including “All My Life,” “Best Of You,” and “Learn To Fly,” before James made an eye-popping claim: that he could drum as well as, if not better, than frontman Dave Grohl.

There’s just one problem: James has never picked up drumsticks in his life. But to quote him, “I don’t consider [that] to be an issue. Because what is drumming? It’s a feeling.”

Hmm. We can see where this may be headed. For anyone unfamiliar with the Foos’ work, Dave Grohl can drum really, really well — almost as well as Animal from The Muppets.

There was nothing for it but to pull up at Guitar Center on Sunset Boulevard and test out James’s claim, with a rendition of “Never Gonna Give You Up,” a track the band have been performing at recent gigs with the original British singer Rick Astley.

Watch to see if James pulls it off (spoiler alert: he doesn’t):

And there it was: “I can’t compete.” Drumming, James is forced to concede, is indeed more than a feeling — and being in a band is still a far off dream.
