David Tennant made his name playing a famous lothario in 2005 TV miniseries Casanova, so his next role may risk him getting typecast.
He plays John in new film You, Me and Him, the bearded neighbour of lesbian couple Olivia (Lucy Punch) and Alice (Faye Marsay), whose recent divorce leads him to befriend one of them a bit too much.
Let’s just say things get a little, er, complicated after that. The cast is a treasure trove of British acting talent too: David’s co-star in “The Runaway Bride” Sarah Parish pops up, as do Nina Sosanya (Love Actually), Ingrid Oliver (Doctor Who), Simon Bird (The Inbetweeners), Sally Phillips (Miranda), Gemma Jones (Bridget Jones’s Diary), David Warner (Ripper Street) and Don Warrington (The Five).
See if you can spot them all in the new trailer:
The film is a family affair, with David’s wife and former Doctor Who co-star Georgia Moffett listed as one of the producers.
It’s actually one of many films David will appear in next year. Also being released in 2018 are the thriller Bad Samaritan, in which he stars alongside Misfits‘ Robert Sheehan as a pair of burglars who stumble upon a woman being held captive in a home they intended to rob; Mary, Queen of Scots, where he plays Protestant cleric John Knox; while Mad to Be Normal, in which he plays maverick psychiatrist R.D. Laing, finally gets a U.S. release.
You, Me and Him will premiere on Showtime in the U.S. on Friday December 29.
What do you think of David’s latest regeneration?
