We knew Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin had a way with words, but his descriptions for new show Nightflyers are out of this world.

The first teaser for the new show was released yesterday (March 20), giving us a peak at the long-awaited 10-part adaptation of his 1980 novella of the same name.

Boardwalk Empire‘s Gretchen Mol stars as Dr. Agatha Matheson, who can be seen sending a distress call in the clip. Her character is one of eight scientists who board spaceship The Nightflyer to make contact with alien life, until things go wrong with the ship’s computer and people start dying.

Also visible in the clip are The Night Shift‘s Eoin Macken as Karl D’Branin, Fast & Furious 6‘s David Ajala as Roy Eris, Silent Witness‘s Sam Strike as Thale, Teen Wolf‘s Maya Eshet as Lommie, Fargo’s Angus Sampson as Rowan, The Last Ship‘s Jodie Turner-Smith as Melantha Jhirl, and Million Dollar Baby‘s Brían F. O’Byrne as Auggie.

But it’s George who really sparks our imagination, with his descriptions of the show as “a haunted house story on a starship,” then “Psycho in space.”

Now that sounds terrifying. See what you think:

Described as “ambitious” and “epic,” Nightflyers is reportedly the most expensive show so far made by Syfy. It’s a world away from the historical fantasy epic of Game of Thrones, though its blend of genres is certainly familiar.

Nightflyers is expected to premiere later this year on Syfy.

Are you excited to see this new show?
