Allons-y! It looks like David Tennant has another role to add to the two already announced this week. He’ll be joining Brooklyn star Saoirse Ronan in a film about Mary Queen of Scots that’s just begun rolling.

The Brooklyn star is the latest in a long line of actors who’ve played the hapless queen, from Vanessa Redgrave in 1971 to Samantha Morton and Harry Potter‘s Clemence Poesy more recently.

Mary famously became queen of Scotland when she was just six days old, and subsequently dealt with all manner of murders, disastrous marriages, and political conspiracies. It was her claim to the English throne that pitted her against her cousin Queen Elizabeth I, who eventually ordered beheading in 1587.

Sixteenth-century spoiler alert!

Suicide Squad‘s Margot Robbie is lined up to play Elizabeth in the new film, but the impressive supporting cast doesn’t end there. Oh no.

Variety reports that Guy Pearce (Memento) has also signed on to play an unknown role, as well as Downton Abbey regular Brendan Coyle, Joe Alwyn (of Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk fame and Taylor Swift‘s new squeeze), Line of Duty‘s Martin Compston. And then there’s man-of-the-moment, Jack Lowden, who’s recently been seen trading fire with Messerschmitts in Dunkirk, and playing a young Morrissey in England is Mine.

Jack will play Mary’s second husband Lord Darnley, with Martin playing her third, James Hepburn, and Jack Robert Dudley, an influential noble in the court of Elizabeth I.

Who David Tennant will play is so far anyone’s guess, though it’s likely the Scottish native will play a ruthless real-life figure in Mary’s court.

Any guesses who it’ll be?
