Tom Hardy has responded to a news report that he’s the new James Bond, saying he’s already “in [his] tux and on the runway.”
Now, before you spit out your cereal, there’s something we should probably draw your attention to: the date. British newspaper The Express ran a story on Sunday (April 1) that claimed Daniel Craig had quit the role and Tom was set to replace him.
*shakes fist* Why, we oughtta…!
As April Fool’s pranks go, it was at least believable. Tom has reportedly been in the running for the role for some time, alongside compatriots Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston and Aidan Turner.
Posting a photo of the offending article on his Instagram account yesterday (April 2), the Peaky Blinders star spoke for all of us when he commented, “dammit.”
And if you’re wondering what all those abbreviations are, then “Gtg” is “Good to go,” “RTB” is military speak for “Return to Base,” and “NOLA” is a reference to New Orleans, Louisiana, where Tom is currently filming Fonzo.
Not everyone was in on the joke, however, with some fans getting carried away:

The most cruel April Fools joke I came across today was the “news” that Tom Hardy would be playing James Bond in the new 007 movie. pic.twitter.com/Ld6FiChlLS

Oh dear. Well, you never know. Maybe Tom’s pretend excitement really is an indication of how much he wants the role.
Are you disappointed this was an April Fool’s joke?
