Peaky Blinders already has a fifth season in the works, but if creator Steven Knight gets his way there will be three more seasons and a movie.

And he’s got every reason to be optimistic, as the 1920s crime drama bagged one of the top awards at the BAFTA TV Awards in London last night (May 13). It beat off competition from Line of Duty and The Crown to win Best Drama Series, in an award show that also saw BBC America’s The Graham Norton Show and Blue Planet II take home awards.

Speaking after winning at the event, Steven told reporters it’ll take “three more series” to finish the story.

“My ambition is to make it a story of a family between two wars,” Digital Spy reports him as saying, “so always I’ve wanted to end it with the first air raid siren in Birmingham in 1939.”

The BBC has yet to confirm if Peaky Blinders will be picked up for a further two seasons, but we’ve got our fingers crossed. Season five is already due to air in 2019, with Steven promising “a lot of big faces” will feature in it, having introduced Adrien Brody as a New York mafioso in season four.

Steven also tackled the idea of a Peaky Blinders movie, something its star Cillian Murphy, who plays gang leader Tommy Shelby, has already expressed an interest in. If they do it, though, Steven wants to make it while the series is still running.

“A movie would be great,” he said. “But I don’t want to do it at the end, maybe between series.”

TV shows can have a tough time moving from the small to the big screen, but Steven’s involvement in Peaky Blinders makes it less of a leap. As well as the creator of shows such as Taboo and even Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, Steven is a filmmaker of some renown, having written the screenplays for Dirty Pretty Things (2002) and Closed Circuit (2013), and directed Tom Hardy in 2013’s Locke.

Are you excited to see more of the Shelby gang?
