Mr. Robot star Rami Malek plays the late, great Freddie Mercury in upcoming Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, and from the looks of the trailer released today (May 15), the likeness is uncanny.

The film traces the transformation of young Farrokh Bulsara into one of rock’s greatest-ever performers, having formed a band in 1970 with guitarist Brian May (Jamestown‘s Gwilym Lee), drummer Roger Taylor (X-Men‘s Ben Hardy) and bassist John Deacon (The Pacific‘s Joseph Mazzello).

The trailer manages to squeeze Queen hits such as “Another One Bits the Dust,” “Killer Queen,” and “We Will Rock You” into just 90 seconds, while showing the band in studio as they record epic title track “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

It also provides brief glimpses of Downton Abbey‘s Allen LeechGame of ThronesAidan Gillen and The Night Manager‘s Tom Hollander, who play various managers of the band, though it’s Rami who steals the show as the charismatic Freddie.

Fans will be glad to see evidence that the film will in fact open in November as promised. Production has been beset by difficulties, with various lead actors and directors leaving the project along the way. Finally, in December, the production was hit with another unforeseen shakeup when Dexter Fletcher (Eddie the Eagle) replaced original director Bryan Singer.

But it looks like nothing can stop them now, as confirmed by a new poster released yesterday (May 14):

We don’t know about you, but we’ve got a hankering to watch Live Aid on repeat until, ooh, let’s say November.

Are you excited to see this version of the Queen story?
