Tom Ellis on a Possible ‘Lucifer’ Revival: “We’re Not Giving Up”

Tom Ellis is optimistic the third season of Lucifer won’t be its last, saying “talks are happening” to save the recently canceled show.

That’s not how he felt at first, admittedly. “I was genuinely shocked when I found out,” he told TV Insider when asked about last week’s news that Fox would no longer be picking up the show. “I was sitting in my flat in London a broken man on Friday (May 11), I’m not gonna lie.”

Tom plays lead role Lucifer Morningstar, aka the devil, whose diabolical powers are a fantastical addition to what is essentially a police procedural set in Los Angeles. It comes as no surprise the character is based on one created by Neil Gaiman in The Sandman comic book series.

The news that Lucifer would not be renewed came days before the last episode of season three aired, and was met by widespread dismay from fans. Hashtags #SaveLucifer and #PickUpLucifer have been trending worldwide on Twitter, and fans sent the cast countless supportive messages saying they hoped the show would be saved, just like Brooklyn Nine-Nine was recently.

“We knew we had a popular show, something people really adored, but not this much,” continues Tom. “I never felt like the numbers on Fox ever really reflected the actual popularity of the show. And that is just modern TV: People find the way to watch a program the way they want to watch it and this outpouring has suggested exactly that.”

Tom claims talks are underway to find a new home for the show, though he stresses that “it’s not going to be an instantaneous thing like Brooklyn Nine-Nine was. It’s worth reiterating that to the fans. But we’re not giving up. If anything this has really galvanized us and picked us up from the floor.”

It’s nice to know fans’ efforts have this effect on their favorite stars, but this news also made us wonder about another one of Tom’s shows. Call us the devil’s advocate, but if Lucifer is canceled, then perhaps that leaves him more time for that Miranda reunion.

Would you be sad to see the end of Lucifer
