Domhnall Gleeson Joins Phoebe Waller-Bridge for TV Comedy Pilot ‘Run’

Domhnall Gleeson has signed on for a leading role in Run, HBO’s romantic comedy pilot about two former lovers who attempt to fulfil a pact they made years ago.

Not only will it be the Star Wars and Brooklyn star’s first major TV role, but it will also bring him up close and personal with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the Emmy-nominated creator of Killing Eve who’s producing the show as well as taking on a supporting role.

Variety reports Domhnall will play Billy Johnson, a successful life guru with “the gift of the gab,” who sends his former flame Ruby a text consisting of a single word: RUN. She quickly remembers the pact they made, namely that if either one of them sent the other that word, they would drop everything and disappear together.

Phoebe is reportedly playing a recurring character named Flick, while her Fleabag collaborator Vicky Jones is on writing and directing duties, so expect something trenchant and minutely observed as well as cringingly funny.

Domhnall and Phoebe both took roles 2017’s Goodbye Christopher Robin. Domhnall played author A.A. Milne, whose son inspired his “Winnie-the-Pooh” stories, while Phoebe played journalist Mary Brown.

It sounds like this show will bring them closer together, which we’re excited about — not least as it gives Domhnall a chance to try his hand at TV comedy. He made a brief but very funny cameo in the last season of Catastrophe, and we’d love to see him stretch his comedy legs if this pilot goes to series.

Are you looking forward to seeing Domhnall and Phoebe on screen together?
