Naomie Harris is finally taking center stage for her next film, playing a rookie cop in police corruption thriller Black and Blue.
Deadline reports Naomie will play a new recruit working the beat in New Orleans, who happens to catch corrupt fellow officers murdering a drug dealer. Her body cam captures the whole thing, which sets the other cops on her trail as they try to silence her and wipe the incriminating footage.
Traffik filmmaker Deon Taylor is in the director’s chair for this one, working from a script by Peter A. Dowling (Sacrifice, Flightplan).
It’s Naomie’s involvement that really makes us sit up and notice, however. The Mowgli star routinely turns in impressive performances that create plenty of buzz for the films they feature in.
Recently, there was her Oscar-nominated role as Chiron’s drug-addicted mother Paula in Moonlight (2016), but her critically acclaimed work stretches all the way back through Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013) and Small Island (2009) to 28 Days Later (2002) — not to mention her turn as Moneypenny in the Bond films — so it’s good to see her coming front and center with this role.
Black and Blue is in pre-production, there is no set start date as of yet.
