Sally Phillips Reveals Plans for a ‘Miranda’ Film: “We Were All Booked”

In the past year we’ve seen Sally Phillips play Bridget Jones’ best friend “Shazza” and Mrs. Bennet in Pride + Prejudice + Zombies, but it turns out we also almost saw her reprise her role as Tilly in a Miranda movie.

Yep, you read that right. There have been a lot of rumors about the possibility of a feature length version of the slapstick sitcom starring Miranda Hart, not least from the lips of Miranda herself. In that interview in May, she said she’d thought about turning the series into a film, but eventually decided it wasn’t a good idea.

Well, it now seems plans got a bit further than that. Speaking in the latest issue of Radio Times, Sally revealed she was booked to take part in the film earlier this year, but plans fell through.

“There was talk of a film,” she said, “and we were all booked for that this summer, but it didn’t happen.”

Wait. What? Booking the entire cast is several steps further down the production line than we’d imagined.

Sally added: “I know [Miranda] doesn’t want to feel that she’s just going back and doing it for the sake of it, she wants to make sure it’s really good. I’d love it if she did it.”

Miranda’s recent performance as Miss Hannigan in a West End production of Annie earlier this year also gave Sally an idea:

“She’s just done this West End musical and everyone apart from me can sing […], so why doesn’t she write a musical?”

Why not, indeed? As Tilly might say, we think that’d be a tremendulant idea.

Have you still got hope Miranda: The Movie will see the light of day?
